Description
Position: Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
This position is responsible for assessing the needs of patients before and during surgical procedures while ensuring patient safety. The RN will outline individual care plans, implement and evaluate patient care during surgeries, and provide leadership within the operating room team. Strong communication skills with patients, families, the OR team, and ancillary departments are essential. Participation in staff development through preceptorship and continuing education is also required.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment and Care Planning (40%): Assess the needs of surgical patients and develop tailored care plans. Implement and evaluate plans during procedures, making necessary adjustments to prioritize patient safety.
- Room Supervision (30%): Oversee activities within the operating room. Anticipate and coordinate any schedule changes, assemble necessary equipment and supplies, assist anesthesia when required, and monitor the sterile field.
- Communication (20%): Effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, the OR team, supervisors, managers, and ancillary departments to ensure seamless care.
- Staff Development (10%): Engage in professional development activities by attending in-services, educational meetings, and other relevant seminars to enhance knowledge and leadership skills.
Requirements
- 3+ years of CVOR experience.
- Open heart surgery experience.
- Prior travel work experience.
- Willingness to float to the General OR as needed.
- Permanent address must be outside a 50-mile radius of the facility.
Profile Requirements
- Work history documentation.
- Skills checklist current to the past year, relevant to CVOR.
- Two supervisory reference forms completed within the last two years.
- Active American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Active Michigan state nursing license.
Additional Information
Weekend requirements include working every third weekend, along with being on-call 1-2 nights per week. Candidates must be prepared to adapt to floating to the General Operating Room when the caseload is low or in cases of turnover, breaks, and room openings.
