Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by ensuring and maintaining the integrity of a sterile surgical field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. The role involves participating in unit activities that uphold high standards of patient care quality and functioning under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Essential Job Functions

• Demonstrates expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, utilizing knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and tools in the performance of invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, adhering to AORN standards.
• Maintains and checks all items for proper packaging, processing, sterile integrity, and expiration dates, ensuring a safe operating room environment.
• Monitors the sterile field for any events that may lead to contamination or alterations and takes corrective action as needed.
• Strives towards competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Exhibits flexibility while contributing to the individualized, ongoing delivery of care within the scope of practice.
• Communicates effectively with the perioperative team, participating fully in Time Out processes, including briefings and debriefings.
• Assists the team in patient transport, room turnovers, and preparation of surgical rooms.
• Models professional behavior and stays current with new technologies and procedures related to instrumentation and equipment.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Demonstrates principles of a Just Culture and complies with HIPAA regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Experience: Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist.
• License: Must be licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Computer Skills: Must possess or be able to obtain necessary computer skills to complete online learning, access forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.
• Language Skills: Must have a working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking.

Additional Information
