NICU and Postpartum Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

The Registered Nurse in the Maternal Child Health department is responsible for delivering direct patient care to a designated group of patients. This role requires collaboration with unit leadership to adhere to the guidelines set forth by nursing governing bodies relevant to Maternal Child Health, including AWONN, ACOG, NNA, and AORN.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and evaluate patients and families with varied needs, from uncomplicated to complex, while recognizing normal parameters and deviations in physical, emotional, developmental, and behavioral status.
  • Utilize a person-centered care approach to develop care plans and prioritize nursing interventions based on the needs of patients and their families.
  • Demonstrate effective planning for patient care while prioritizing both expected and unforeseen needs.
  • Involve patients and families in setting care goals to ensure they are engaged in their health journey.
  • Employ critical thinking skills in clinical decision-making, prioritizing both planned and unplanned situations, and proactively addressing potential challenges.
  • Exhibit competence in the technical skills necessary for providing high-quality care to patients and families.
  • Stay updated on organizational policies, procedures, and standards; serve as a resource to peers.
  • Facilitate connections between patients, families, and relevant health team members to optimize care.
  • Independently manage the care of postpartum patients and their newborns, particularly in a travel capacity.

Qualifications

  • Postpartum experience is required.
  • Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) are essential.
  • Valid state nursing license; verification through Nursys is necessary.

Unit Description

The department features state-of-the-art facilities, including Labor and Delivery rooms, postpartum rooms, and a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Staff members are trained in postpartum care and may also cross-train in Labor and Delivery or the NICU.
