Surgical Technician/Technologist

Shift: 10-hour days, 6:30 AM to 5 PM. Call required.

Certifications: BLS (AHA) required.

About the Role

The Surgical Technician/Technologist will assist in the surgical suite and endoscopy room to provide safe and skilled patient care. The individual must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. This includes an understanding of the growth and development principles across the lifespan and the ability to assess data reflecting the patient’s status. The role requires interpreting information to identify each patient’s needs relative to age-specific requirements and delivering appropriate care according to departmental policies and procedures.

Experience Requirements

• Two years of surgical tech experience in the relevant services preferred, or completion of an accredited surgical tech program.
• Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists is preferred.
• Previous experience of at least 2 years as a surgical technician is advantageous.

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist the OR Circulating RN in preparing the surgical room by opening sterile packages, selecting necessary equipment, and ensuring all required supplies are available.
• Set up instruments and equipment necessary for surgical procedures.
• Maintain a sterile environment in the operating room while adhering to safety and infection control standards.
• Serve on committees as assigned and collaborate as a professional member of the Surgical Services team.
• Assist with cleaning the surgical suite and related areas.
• Provide guidance and instruction to fellow team members where necessary.
• Check and rotate stock of supplies and equipment, replacing outdated items as needed.

Secondary Functions

• Pursue continued professional development through education and training.
• May assist in transporting patients to surgery or escorting patients upon discharge.
• Attend assigned meetings and contribute to the team dynamic.
• Assist with the timely organization of inventory and supplies.
• Participate in and occasionally lead in-service training for colleagues.
• Assist in orienting new employees to the department.
• May work in the Sterile Processing Department as needed.
