Registered Nurse (RN)

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the protection, promotion, and optimization of health and abilities, the prevention of illness and injury, and the alleviation of suffering through effective diagnosis and treatment. This role emphasizes advocacy for individuals and families while adhering to established standards of practice.

Job Responsibilities:

• Conduct assessments, develop care plans, delegate responsibilities, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of patients, acting as the primary or accountable nurse as necessary.
• Educate patients and their families on health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources.
• Administer medications safely and effectively in accordance with established protocols.
• Participate in productivity and resource management, including staffing, time management, and supply utilization.
• Comply with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and institutional policies.
• Engage in the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting unit councils, participating in improvement initiatives, and engaging in peer review practices.
• Commit to ongoing professional development and complete all mandatory education requirements.
• Incorporate nursing research and current evidence into practice to enhance patient care.
• Support a learning environment for new employees and nursing students.
• Uphold the values of the organization in all aspects of practice.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of RN experience.
• Management experience ranging from zero (0) to three (3) years.
• Direct clinical experience of five (5) or more years.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Judgment and critical thinking abilities.
• Organizational understanding and planning skills.
• Effective problem-solving capabilities.
• Commitment to quality and reliability in patient care.
• Knowledge of safety and risk management practices.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education:

• Required Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
• Preferred Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Certifications & Licensure:

• Required: Current New York State RN License.
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific requirements as listed in the Compliance Matrix.
• Preferred: Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
• Relevant skills certification (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Schedule Notes:

• 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours per week, including every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
• Experience in managing common diagnoses such as Pneumonia, COPD, CHF, AKI, and Osteomyelitis is required.
• Minimum of 5 years of Medical/Surgical experience is essential.
• Block schedule accommodations cannot be provided.
