Description

Registered Nurse (RN)

The Medical-Surgical RN provides direct patient care, coordinates treatment plans, and ensures high-quality nursing services for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery. This role requires strong clinical judgment, collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, and a commitment to patient-centered care. The position involves maintaining current knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices and demonstrating critical thinking skills throughout all phases of the nursing process. The RN will serve as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher, and resource for peers and other healthcare providers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Guarantee quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards; measure health outcomes against patient care goals and standards; comply with facility standards of care set by regulatory agencies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care in accordance with hospital policies; make nursing decisions within the scope of licensure.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapy as per physician orders.
  • Monitor vital signs, symptoms, and patient progress, reporting any changes promptly.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families about treatment plans, discharge instructions, and health management.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health records (EMR).
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, safety protocols, and regulatory standards.
  • Monitor patient progress, document assessments, and adjust care plans as needed.
  • Assist with post-operative recovery, chronic illness management, and acute care interventions.
  • Respond to emergencies and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse age groups and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Attend at least 75% of nursing staff meetings and engage in available in-service education for professional growth and development.
  • Foster a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients and their families.
  • Promote patient independence by setting care goals; teaching patients and their families to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills; and addressing questions.
  • Document patient care services by accurately charting in patient and department records.
  • Maintain continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and ongoing needs.
  • Delegate tasks effectively to nursing assistants and other support staff, while overseeing their work.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed by supervisors.

Other Requirements

  • Able to work weekends, holidays, and shift rotations as needed.
  • Maintain good physical, emotional, and mental health.
  • Orients and mentors new staff as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Prior Medical-Surgical experience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Idaho or approved compact state licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required upon date of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required within a year of date of hire.

Shift Information

  • Night Shift; 36 hours/week; 5:00 PM - 5:30 AM
  • Holiday coverage required

Minimum Years of Experience

  • Less than 1 year of relevant experience required.
