Sonographer - Acute Care

Position Summary:

The Acute Care Sonographer II provides essential healthcare services in ultrasound (US) to assist in diagnosis or treatment. This role involves performing US procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by licensed practitioners. The position primarily requires independent work within a complex, acute care inpatient environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) certification in at least one category (OB/Gyn or Abdomen/Small Parts).
  • ARDMS certification in a minimum of one advanced category (Fetal Echocardiography, Breast, Pediatrics, or Registered Vascular Technology, Musculoskeletal) or ten years of experience in advanced practice with a commitment to obtain advanced registry.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
  • Two (2) years of post-graduation experience in advanced US practice reflecting registration status.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of post-graduation experience in advanced US practice reflecting registration status.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform US exams and procedures in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Assist physicians and other medical staff during exams and procedures.
  • Complete documentation in designated areas for proper interpretation, reporting, archiving, and retrieval of exams.
  • Perform ancillary duties to ensure proper distribution, billing, and archival of exams and procedures.
  • Retrieve and review previous studies, reports, written orders, and health information to ensure timely performance and reporting of US exams and procedures.
  • Participate in the implementation, monitoring, and improvement of the organization's quality indicators as outlined in the strategic plan.

  • Successfully perform essential job functions in a busy and stressful environment.
  • Learn current and new computer applications and office equipment utilized in the facility.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Analyze, organize, and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.

Schedule Requirements:

  • This role requires regular and sustained attendance.
  • The position may necessitate working beyond a standard 40-hour workweek, including weekends and after-hours shifts.
  • Holiday coverage is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly, exerting force occasionally.
  • Maintain a sitting posture for extended periods, with necessary adjustments for comfort.
  • Stand and walk repeatedly within the work area, requiring good balance and coordination.
  • Occasionally climb stairs or use ladders.
  • Frequently twist, bend, stoop, and kneel as required for patient examinations.
  • Reach above shoulder level repeatedly for various tasks.
  • Engage in fine-finger movements continuously for tasks such as typing and precise handling.
  • Maintain close visual acuity for data analysis, interpretation, and reading various materials.
  • Demonstrate cognitive skills such as learning new tasks, remembering processes, maintaining focus, and making timely decisions.
  • Be aware of continuous exposure to bloodborne pathogens, radiation, chemicals, and infection risks associated with patient care.
