Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) plays a vital role in protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities while preventing illness and injury. The RN is responsible for diagnosing and treating human responses and advocating for individuals and families in accordance with established standards and practices. This role emphasizes patient-centered care within a supportive and healing environment.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of patients, serving as the primary or accountable nurse.
• Educate patients and their families on health promotion and disease management utilizing available resources.
• Administer medications safely following organizational policies and with a thorough understanding of pharmacology.
• Contribute to effective resource utilization concerning staffing, time management, and supplies.
• Comply with nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
• Participate actively in the Nursing Shared Governance Model by supporting unit councils and contributing to improvement initiatives.
• Engage in professional development and complete all mandatory education requirements.
• Integrate nursing research and current evidence into daily practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and students.
• Uphold organizational values in all interactions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of nursing (RN) experience.
• Management experience ranging from zero (0) to three (3) years.
• Five plus (5+) years of direct nursing experience.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Critical thinking and sound judgment.
• Organizational understanding and effective planning skills.
• Problem-solving abilities with a focus on quality and reliability.
• Knowledge in safety and risk management practices.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education:

• Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

Certifications & Licensure:

• Required: Current NYS RN License.
• Required: BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific certification requirements as listed in the Compliance Matrix.
• Preferred: Professional certification in a related nursing specialty.
• Relevant skills certification (i.e., ACLS, PALS, TNCC) as required by the assigned unit.

Languages:

• English: Read, write, and speak fluently.

Schedule Notes:

This position is for the night shift, requiring 12-hour shifts and every third weekend. Candidates should be prepared to float to postpartum units as needed. Qualifications include a minimum of two (2) years of experience in labor and delivery, ability to perform vaginal exams, and necessary certifications in NRP, FM, ACLS, and BLS.
