Unit Information

The role involves working in a Medical Oncology unit with progressive care beds and a focus on pediatric patients. The unit has a high acuity of PCU patients with a small amount of medical-surgical care.

Schedule

Candidates may accept a 12-hour rotating contract, which includes scheduling for days, nights, or a combination of both, based on departmental needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every four-week scheduling period, although changes are not guaranteed and depend on staffing priorities.

Special Procedures/Unit Details

The unit comprises 36 beds, with over 24 dedicated to PCU level care. Although pediatric patients are occasionally cared for in this unit, it is rare, and such cases would primarily be handled by permanent staff. Pediatric experience is not a requirement for agency RNs.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of PCU experience.
• Certifications: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and NIH stroke scale.
• Staffing ratios: 1:4-5 for Medical-Surgical Telemetry and 1:3 for PCU.
• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower levels of acuity.
• Previous travel experience is preferred.

• Interpretation of ABGs
• Nasal cannula management
• Tracheostomy management
