Cardiovascular Technologist

Job Summary:

The Cardiovascular Technologist will assist physicians with all invasive cardiac and peripheral diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including temporary and permanent pacemaker placements. This role also involves assisting with circulatory support devices as needed, such as IABP and Impella.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare and organize specific equipment and sterile trays for each procedure.
• Assist procedure room team with patient positioning and monitoring preparation.
• Calibrate and test transducers for accurate pressure readings.
• Support physicians throughout diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Load and operate power injectors and related sterile support equipment.
• Maneuver table controls upon the physician's request, with radiology technologists only maneuvering fluoroscopy as requested.
• Calibrate hemodynamic monitoring equipment and analyze hemodynamic data gathered during procedures, including computerized ventriculography data and valve area calculations.
• Calculate and record cardiac output and oximetry readings.
• Utilize and maintain required standards for digital cine technologies, including protocols for storage and retrieval of patient images and hemodynamic records.
• Assist with vascular access, sheath removal, and use of hemostatic closure devices while ensuring hemostasis at the access site.
• Manage inventory control, maintain PAR levels, and prepare necessary equipment for each procedure.
• Adhere to practice requirements associated with Clinical Cardiovascular Information Systems (CVIS).
• Operate equipment safely, prepare and care for equipment, and return supplies as needed.
• Participate in on-call responsibilities as per organizational policy.
• Apply radial access banding while maintaining hemostasis at the access site.
• Identify and interpret cardiac arrhythmias.
• Assist with maintenance, calibration, and routine evaluation of all diagnostic and technical equipment.
• Lift a minimum of 40 lbs., push and pull a minimum of 100 lbs., and stand for a minimum of 4 hours daily.
• Recognize the needs of the patient population served and tailor care to meet those specific needs (age, culture, language, etc.).
• Adhere to radiation safety standards according to organizational policy.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory or equivalent invasive procedure area in an acute care hospital.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Completion of a CVT-accredited program or two (2) years in another cardiac vascular laboratory.
• Familiarity with computers, hemodynamic monitoring, and sterile operative techniques.
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite.

Education:

• Graduate of an accredited cardiovascular technologist program, radiologic technologist program, or applied science program.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification required within 3 months of employment.
• Successful completion of the RCIS exam given by CCI or possess a Radiologic Technologist License within one year of hire.

Schedule Notes:

• Shift: Day Shift - 7:00 AM to 6:30 PM
• Weekends and holidays may be required as needed.
• Minimum 7 shifts required on call, with a maximum of 10.
