Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical Surgical Oncology

Job Description

We are seeking experienced and dedicated Registered Nurses to join our Medical Surgical Oncology team. This position involves working with patients diagnosed with various hematological and oncological conditions, providing essential care and support in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage patient care for individuals with diagnoses such as lymphoma, multiple myeloma, acute and chronic leukemias, sickle cell disease, and other non-hematological cancers
• Administer chemotherapy, blood transfusions, and IV antibiotics as required
• Monitor and respond to oncological emergencies, including tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
• Implement infection prevention protocols and manage patient safety to minimize falls
• Provide specialized care including insulin and heparin drips
• Participate in the use of Rapid Response Teams when necessary

Shift Information

This position requires a commitment to night shifts, specifically three 12-hour shifts from 19:00 to 07:30. Schedules are variable and may include weekend shifts based on unit needs. There is no guarantee of set or blocked scheduling.

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure required
• Experience in medical-surgical nursing is essential; Hematology-Oncology experience is preferred but not required
• ONS certification is preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required
• Skilled in telemetry, interpretation of dysrhythmias, and cardiac monitoring
• Proficiency in IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central line management

Unit Details

This unit focuses on providing comprehensive care in a supportive environment. Nurses may be required to float to other Medical/Surgical and Oncology units as needed, so flexibility is important.
