Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse with expertise in acute care nursing and a specialization in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) settings. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional care to adult and geriatric patients, with a focus on those diagnosed with acute leukemia. This role involves understanding infection prevention protocols and implementing patient fall prevention strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and established protocols.
• Monitor patient conditions, interpreting telemetry data, and managing dysrhythmias.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Perform essential nursing skills including IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration.
• Manage feeding tubes, central lines, and peripheral lines effectively.
• Utilize Rapid Response Teams when necessary to ensure patient safety.
• Assist in maintaining compliance with infection control standards and fall prevention protocols.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of overall acute care nursing experience.
• At least 1 year of experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) environment.
• Strong telemetry skills with the ability to interpret dysrhythmias.
• Experience with computerized charting systems, preferably EPIC.

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Certifications Preferred

• ONS Chemo Certification
• NIHSS Certification

Work Schedule

This position operates on a 12-hour shift basis, with both day and night rotations. Candidates may be scheduled for varying shifts based on department needs, and review of shift assignments occurs every four weeks. Please note that changes to assignments depend on staffing priorities.

Staffing Ratios

Staffing ratios are primarily targeted at 1:4 patients per nurse, though they may increase to 1:5 based on unit demands.
