Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for protecting, promoting, and optimizing health and abilities; preventing illness and injury; and alleviating suffering. This is achieved through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses and advocacy in the care of individuals and families. The RN is accountable for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development in alignment with the New York State Nurse Practice Act, relevant policies, and ethical standards. The RN fosters a caring environment focused on patient-centered care.

Job Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, delegate, coordinate, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of patients, serving as the primary or accountable nurse as assigned.
• Educate patients and families on health promotion and disease management using available resources.
• Administer medications safely according to established policies and guidelines.
• Assist in ensuring productivity and effective resource utilization, including staffing, time management, supplies, and services.
• Comply with all nursing practice standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies.
• Participate actively in Nursing Shared Governance by supporting improvement initiatives and contributing to peer review practices.
• Engage in professional development and continuing nursing education, fulfilling all mandatory education requirements.
• Integrate nursing research and current evidence into practice.
• Provide a supportive learning environment for new employees and nursing students.
• Perform Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator responsibilities when assigned.
• Contribute to the Clinical Ladder Program as knowledge and expertise develop.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Experience

• Six (6) months to three (3) years of RN experience.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills (verbal & written).
• Excellent judgment and critical thinking abilities.
• Effective organizational understanding and planning skills.
• Proficient in problem solving and quality improvement.
• Reliable and committed to safety and risk management.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous clinical nursing experience in an acute care or ambulatory setting.

Education

Required Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.

Preferred Education

• Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing.

Required Certifications & Licensure

• Current New York State Registered Nurse License.
• BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross).
• Unit-specific requirements as per compliance guidelines.

Preferred Certifications & Licensure

• CCRN.
• Relevant skills certification, e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC, as required by assigned unit.

Schedule Notes

This position requires 12-night shifts, totaling 36 hours per week, with a commitment to work every 3rd weekend.

Experience with intensive cardiac patients and related technologies is essential, including management of conditions such as CHF, COPD, and end-stage heart failure, as well as involvement in procedures like thrombectomy and TNK.
