Registered Nurse - Endoscopy (RN)

The Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in Endoscopy is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for delivering exceptional care to patients. This role encompasses various responsibilities, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care, with a specific focus on endoscopic procedures.

Main Function

The RN assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients during a specified timeframe. They provide therapeutic care through the application of the nursing process, effective communication, and collaboration with other healthcare professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities

Standards of Care

  • Assessment: Conduct ongoing and systematic assessments of patients' physiological, psychological, and cognitive status.
  • Diagnosis: Analyze assessment data to establish appropriate nursing diagnoses.
  • Outcome Identification: Identify expected outcomes tailored to each patient's needs.
  • Planning: Develop a prioritized goal-directed plan of care based on nursing diagnoses and expected outcomes.
  • Implementation: Deliver care consistently while performing documentation duties that are timely, accurate, and concise.
  • Evaluation: Assess the effectiveness of care provided by self and the healthcare team, modifying approaches as necessary to achieve patient outcomes.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and adherence to safety protocols within the institution.
  • Act efficiently in emergency situations, adhering to established protocols.
  • Consistently follow all relevant policies and procedures.
  • Incorporate hourly rounding into daily practice to enhance patient care.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work effectively with healthcare team members, patients, and their families to optimize patient care.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in staffing arrangements and conflict resolution.
  • Communicate effectively to ensure the cohesive functioning of the healthcare team.

  • Maintain awareness of current nursing research and implement appropriate findings into practice.
