Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Shift Information

Full-time position with three 12-hour night shifts per week from 1900 to 0730, including weekend rotation.

Position Summary

The Registered Nurse position provides quality nursing care for maternal and newborn patients. This role involves collaboration with other professional staff to deliver services that reflect a caring philosophy. The OB RN will also cross-train to care for Med Surg/EICU patients, as needed.

Essential Job Duties

• Conduct initial nursing histories, assess patient conditions, and develop individual plans of care for assigned patients.
• Triage patient care based on presenting or expressed symptoms.
• Administer medications accurately.
• Assess labor progression and manage induction of labor and cervical ripening.
• Competently handle medical emergencies, including prolapsed cord, breech delivery, postpartum hemorrhage, precipitous delivery, uterine rupture, management of meconium, abruptio placenta, and placenta previa.
• Perform and accurately interpret fetal heart monitoring.
• Manage pregnancy-related concerns such as hypertension and diabetes.
• Assess newborn conditions and identify situations requiring heightened surveillance or higher levels of care.
• Perform neonatal resuscitation within the scope of practice and certification.
• Recognize and manage neonatal sepsis.
• Monitor newborns for adverse events such as hypoglycemia, hypothermia, and jaundice, intervening appropriately.
• Educate patients and promote involvement in the care of their newborns.
• Communicate effectively with the patient care team and promptly alert providers about patient status changes.
• Perform other duties as requested.

Required Qualifications

• Two-year degree in nursing required; four-year degree in nursing preferred.
• Must hold and maintain a valid Registered Nursing license in Wisconsin.
• AHA BLS certification within one month of hire.
• NRP certification within six months of hire.
• ALSO certification within one year of hire.
• STABLE certification within one year of hire.
• Intermediate Fetal Monitoring certification within one year of hire.
• Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail are required.

• Holiday coverage is required.
• Minimum of less than one year of experience is required.
