Shift Details

This position requires working nights, with 4 shifts of 12 hours each per week, totaling 48 hours. There is an option for a 36-hour workweek. The role includes a holiday rotation and requires coverage every third weekend. Additionally, the nurse will be required to float across multiple locations within the region to similar units.

Job Overview

A Registered Nurse in Med Surg provides critical nursing care to patients undergoing various surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a medical surgical environment, with a focus on post-operative care.

Unit Information

• Bed Size: 30
• Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
• Common Patient Types: Hip and knee surgeries, mastectomies, abdominal surgeries.
• Experience with PCA and Heparin drips is required.
• The unit includes an emotional support canine to assist both staff and patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of current Medical Surgical experience in a hospital setting.
• Post-operative surgical experience is highly preferred.
• Experience in caring for patients with hip/knee surgeries, mastectomies, and abdominal surgeries is also preferred.
• Open to first-time travelers.
• Proficiency in the EPIC electronic medical record system is required.
• Active Iowa nursing license or compact/multistate license at the time of submission.
• Current BLS certification from AHA or American Red Cross.

Holiday Commitment

Candidates should be prepared to work during 1-2 of the following upcoming winter holidays unless the unit is closed: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year.

Orientation Dates

Upcoming orientation sessions are scheduled for 10/26, 11/9, 11/23, and 12/7.
