Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering respiratory therapy services, ensuring evaluations and treatments for patients are performed timely, accurately, and reliably. This role involves patient care for inpatients, outpatients, and associated community groups as needed.

Job Responsibilities

• Administer respiratory therapy procedures as directed.
• Perform aerosol therapy treatments.
• Conduct chest physiotherapy (CPT) and secretion mobilization therapies including Flutter and PEP Mask.
• Administer incentive spirometry therapy.
• Provide metered-dose inhaler (M.D.I.) therapy.
• Perform suctioning procedures and extubation as necessary.
• Ensure safety management for oxygen tanks.
• Deliver oxygen therapy utilizing approved devices.
• Manage BiPAP and CPAP therapy, including alarms and settings.
• Utilize cough assist and vest therapy as appropriate.
• Manage high flow cannula and humidifier therapy, including alarms.
• Conduct pulmonary function screening and diagnostic procedures.
• Perform fit testing procedures in coordination with employee health protocols.
• Conduct pulse oximetry procedures.
• Perform adult and pediatric EKGs.
• Administer basic life support (BLS) for adults, pediatrics, and neonates.
• Oversee mechanical ventilation and manage ventilator alarms.
• Conduct arterial punctures and blood gas analyses.
• Implement quality control measures in the blood gas laboratory.
• Manage patient healthcare information systems.
• Oversee medication administration and dispensing systems.
• Verify physician's orders for pulmonary and cardiology procedures.
• Record and report results from all procedures accurately.
• Maintain adherence to departmental delivery standards.
• Keep organized files and records in compliance with departmental policies.
• Assist in departmental in-service training programs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills Required

• Up to three (3) years of experience in respiratory therapy.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

• Problem-solving skills.
• Expertise in safety and risk management.
• Technical proficiency in respiratory care devices.

Preferred Skills

• One (1) year of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.

Education

• Graduation from an accredited School for Respiratory Therapy.

Certifications & Licensure

• Valid New York State Respiratory Therapy Permit or License.
• Registered by the NBRC as a Respiratory Therapist.
• BLS and ACLS certifications from an accredited organization.

Schedule Notes

This position requires working 36 hours per week with experience in critical care, NICU, and familiarity with V60 BiPAP and 980 Puritan Bennett Ventilators. The ability to participate in external patient transports is essential.
