ob Summary
The Travel Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) provides occupational therapy services to patients in a Skilled Nursing Facility under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist. This role focuses on helping patients regain independence in daily living skills, improve mobility and strength, and enhance overall functional performance. The position is a temporary assignment requiring flexibility to work at various facility locations.
Key Responsibilities
Implement treatment plans developed by the Occupational Therapist
Assist patients with therapeutic activities to improve daily living skills (dressing, bathing, eating, mobility, etc.)
Monitor patient progress and report updates to the supervising Occupational Therapist
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements
Educate patients and caregivers on therapy techniques and safety practices
Ensure therapy areas and equipment are clean, safe, and properly maintained
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support patient recovery goals
Follow all facility policies, infection control standards, and professional guidelines
Qualifications
Active Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license (state-specific as required)
Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program
Current CPR/BLS certification (preferred or required per facility)
Previous SNF or geriatric rehabilitation experience preferred
Ability to adapt quickly to new clinical environments and documentation systems
Skills & Competencies
Strong patient care and interpersonal skills
Excellent documentation and organizational ability
Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques and adaptive equipment
Ability to work independently while following therapist direction
Flexibility and reliability for travel assignments
Work Environment
Skilled Nursing Facilities / rehabilitation centers
Requires standing, walking, assisting patients with movement, and light to moderate lifting
Travel assignments typically range from 8–13 weeks depending on facility needs
