Description
Job Opportunity: Certified Surgical Technician
Location: Boston, Massachusetts
Facility: Brigham & Women's Hospital
Hospital System: Mass General Brigham
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 12 weeks (standard), with options for 13 or 20 weeks
Work Schedule
- Primarily night shifts with possible day shift rotations based on unit needs and skills.
- Shift options:
- 4x10 Night Shifts:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:00 PM – 5:30 AM
- Wednesday: 9:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- 4x12 Night Shifts:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
- Wednesday: 9:00 PM – 9:30 AM
- Day shifts (if scheduled):
- 4x10: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM (M, Tu, Th, F), 9:00 AM – 7:30 PM (W)
- 4x12: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (M, Tu, Th, F), 9:00 AM – 9:30 PM (W)
- Weekend shifts included: 12-hour shifts on weekends for 4x10 schedule, with 8- or 10-hour shifts during the same week to meet contracted hours.
- Each contract includes at least 2 weeks of day shifts and 2 short calls per 4-week schedule.
Required Credentials & Documentation
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certification: NBSTSA or NCCT only.
- Professional License/Certificate Verification: Must be current and valid; MA Conditional Licenses not accepted.
- MGB Badge Photo: Recent (within 6 months), professional headshot without glasses or filters.
- Fit Test: N95 respirator fit test within 365 days of start date; no religious exemptions.
- MMR Vaccination or Immunity: Documentation of required vaccines or proof of immunity.
- TB Test: Negative TB skin test or blood test within 3 months of start date; updated if >6 month break.
- Health Statement: Physician-signed statement within 365 days of start date; updated if >6 month break.
- Criminal Background Checks:
- MGB Criminal Background Check (past 7 years)
- Massachusetts CORI check
- National Sex Offender Registry check
- Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid)
- Education Verification: Highest level of education verified.
- Social Security Number Trace: Required for background checks.
- Respirator Medical Clearance (RMC) Attestation: Required if fit test is needed.
- Resume: Must include past 7 years of work experience with city and state.
- References: Two recent references, at least one supervisor or above in the skillset.
- Skills Checklist: Required for submission.
- Candidate Submission Coversheet: Required for submission.
- Confirmation of Assignment/POI Form: Required for onboarding and assignment acceptance.
Preferred / Optional Credentials
- Hepatitis B Vaccination or Immunity: Strongly preferred.
- Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Sept 15 – April 30); no exemptions.
- Tdap Vaccine: Preferred, updated within 10 years.
- Positive TB Test Follow-up: If positive TB test, documentation of a negative chest x-ray required.
- TB Symptom Survey: Required if positive PPD, updated annually.
Additional Notes
- No onsite fit testing; must be completed prior to start.
- All documentation must be current and compliant with Mass General Brigham policies.
- Assignments may include rotations between night and day shifts based on unit needs.
- Weekend and short call shifts are part of the schedule.
Requirements / Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification from NBSTSA or NCCT.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist.
- Recent Certified Surgical Technologist experience within the last year.
