Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Home Health Float Pool

Location: Potomac, District of Columbia
Facility: MedStar DC Home Health Float Pool
Hospital System: MedStar Health


Position Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP (Orientation every Monday)
  • Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts (No holidays or weekends)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
  • Patient Visits: Manage at least 8 patient visits per day
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Home Health experience with Medicare-certified home health agency
  • Experience with OASIS E and Homecare Homebase charting system
  • Skills in Peripheral IV Start, HCHB, Infusion, Medicare Home Health
  • Ability to manage cases including CHF, diabetes, drain care, urinary catheter, ostomy care, infusion services, central line care, joint replacement, COVID, and palliative care
  • First-time travel nurses accepted

Licensure & Certifications

  • Required: DC Registered Nurse License (must have license in hand upon application)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
    • Flu vaccine (mandatory)
    • COVID-19 vaccination required (with strict exemption policies)
  • Additional certifications may be required based on unit or role (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC)

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

  • Valid driver's license if driving is part of the job
  • Background check within 90 days including criminal, employment, and education verification
  • Drug screening within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable diseases
  • Immunization documentation including:
    • Flu vaccine (seasonal)
    • Tdap within 10 years preferred
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
  • Competency exams (medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, color blindness) as applicable
  • Facility-specific training modules (Sitels) must be completed before start date

Work Environment & Dress Code

  • Dress code: Navy, tan, or white scrubs
  • May come into contact with COVID-19 patients
  • Charting methods: Homecare Homebase, SBAR, SOAP, OASIS E

  • Mileage reimbursement available
  • Facility requires strict adherence to health and safety protocols
  • Candidates must complete all required documentation and training prior to start
