Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Facility: Ohio State University Hospital
Hospital System: Outside In
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Patient Population

  • Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required

Staffing Ratios

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Key Skills & Clinical Competencies

  • Telemetry & Dysrhythmia Management
  • PCU/Stepdown Care
  • IV Insulin & Heparin Protocols
  • Renal Failure Management
  • Cardiac & Vasoactive Drips (including titration)
  • Blood Product Administration
  • Tracheostomy Management
  • Rapid Response Team Utilization
  • Wound Care/Wound Vac
  • Non-Invasive Airway Management (CPAP/BIPAP, Oxygen)
  • EPIC Documentation

Required Exams and Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (prior to start)
  • Unit-Specific Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (within 1 year of start, updated annually)

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB Questionnaire (in lieu of annual TB test renewal)
  • MMR Vaccines or Positive Titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella
  • Hepatitis B Titer or 3-Vaccine Series (signed declination acceptable)
  • Varicella Vaccines or Positive Titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 3 months of start
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination (required during flu season Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required but strongly recommended

Background and Compliance

  • 7-Year Criminal Background Check within 1 year of start (including SS Trace, Counties lived/worked, Nationwide, Sex Offender, MVR if applicable)
  • FBI and BCI Fingerprinting required within 1 year of start (code 3701.881)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • 2 Professional References required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment Application and Skills Checklist required
  • Education Accreditation Confirmation for nursing degree from accredited programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)

Facility Specific Policies

  • Dress Code and Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting acknowledgment required
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate required prior to start and annually
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required annually
  • Proof of Fingerprint Completion required (especially for APN candidates)

Additional Notes

  • Travelers can renew BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications at the facility
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG remediation process in place if competency exam is failed
  • Fingerprinting results processing may take 1-2 weeks; delays possible if background hits occur
  • Flu vaccine decliners must wear masks during flu season
  • Background check approval may be pending with fingerprint results on file

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with telemetry, critical care skills, and working in a fast-paced academic hospital setting. Compliance with strict credentialing, health, and background requirements is mandatory.
