Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Step-down Unit)

Location: Amarillo, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Nights, either 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
  • Travel experience: Not required
  • Epic experience: Required within the last 6 months
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays if needed
  • No local candidates; must be within a 50-mile travel radius

Required Credentials & Certifications

  • Licenses & Verifications:
    • State License primary source online verification
    • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
    • Education Verification (highest level of education)
  • Certifications (as applicable):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (expires annually)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80%)
    • Color Blind Testing (online)
    • General Competency Exam (minimum 80% or Angoff score)
  • Other:
    • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
    • Photo for badge

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check upon hire
  • HHS/OIG check upon hire
  • Fingerprinting (time sensitive; required for New Mexico placements only)
  • Work history verification for 7 years
  • Skills checklist (unit specific, annual)
  • Employment application/resume required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire within 90 days of start (for positive TB results)
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (positive titer, series, or declination accepted)
    • Varicella (chickenpox)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination (dose 1 and fully vaccinated) or approved medical/religious exemption required
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; additional onsite drug screen during orientation (only one attempt allowed)

Additional Notes

  • Must have valid Driver’s License or State ID
  • I9 and E-Verify required for direct candidates; attestations for subcontractors
  • Clear headshot photo required for badge
  • No references required to clear candidates, but professional references may be requested internally
  • Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements
