Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Assignment Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Unit: Clinical Resource Unit - Oncology/Medical-Surgical Telemetry
- Schedule: 12-hour night shifts (day/night rotating schedule available)
- Floating to MedSurg units including:
- Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
- Acute Leukemia
- Hematology
- Medical Oncology
- Gynecological Oncology
- Urology
- Colorectal
- Surgical Oncology
- Corrections Healthcare
- Facility: Comprehensive Cancer Center with 318 acute care beds, 36 inpatient oncology beds specialized by cancer diagnosis
- Staffing Ratios: Goal is 1:4, can be 1:5
- Weekends: Variable based on unit needs
- Scheduling: No set/blocked schedules; self-scheduling requests are submitted and balanced before final schedule posting
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday-Friday day shift orientation
- Weeks 2-3: Five bedside orientation shifts
- Then independent practice
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2+ years Medical-Surgical level or higher required
- Oncology experience preferred but not required
- EPIC experience required
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
- Competencies:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (with remediation process if needed)
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year stating good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations/vaccinations including:
- Tdap (adult dose)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
- References: Two professional references required; at least one from a manager or formal leadership
Additional Notes
- Infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention are heavily emphasized
- Candidates must review and sign dress code and hand hygiene policies
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training and compliance policies must be completed and acknowledged annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually
- License verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Fingerprinting results must be obtained prior to start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
- Candidates can renew ACLS and BLS certifications at the facility if needed
