Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Amarillo, Texas

Job Details
- Unit: PACU and Pain Management
- Shift: 3x12 hour days
- Experience: 5 years preferred
- Travel Experience: Required
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Charting System: Epic (experience required)
- Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, PALS
- Special Equipment: PCEA pump
- Unit Responsibilities: Assist anesthesia with epidural insertion and manage post-operative pain related to epidural or intrathecal analgesia
- Travel Radius: 50 mile radius rule
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – as applicable
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) – as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – as applicable
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) – as applicable
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – as applicable
- State License Verification (Primary source online verification required)
- NURSYS Verification (for RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Color Blind Testing (online acceptable)
- Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
- Core Parts I, II, III (for subcontractors; annual completion required)
Background and Documentation Requirements
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check upon hire
- HHS/OIG check upon hire
- Education verification (must verify highest level of education)
- Work history verification for 7 years
- Skills checklist (unit specific, annual)
- Complete application/resume required
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
- Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
- TB questionnaire within 90 days of start (for positive TB results)
- Measles (Rubeola) immunity: positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters required if negative/equivocal)
- Mumps immunity: positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters required if negative/equivocal)
- Rubella immunity: positive titer or 2 vaccines (boosters required if negative/equivocal)
- Hepatitis B: positive titer, series, or declination accepted
- Varicella: positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history of chickenpox
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, etc.)
- Onsite drug screen during orientation (only one attempt allowed; failure results in cancellation)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required (declinations not accepted)
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements (not applicable here)
- Clear headshot photo required for badge
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and HIPAA compliance required
- Must comply with 50-mile radius travel rule
This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with PACU and pain management expertise, who are proficient in Epic charting and hold current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications.
