Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

Job Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)
- Shift: Weekend position

- Call required
- 6 call shifts in a 6-week period (can vary)
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scheduling: No block scheduling
- First Timers: Accepted
- Local Candidates: Accepted (with a pay adjustment for Indiana residents)
- License: Must have Indiana state RN license and required certifications in hand before submitting
- Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs (excluding CV & Transplant areas)
- Trauma Experience: Trauma Level I experience required
- Screen candidates with >2 years experience if at least 1 year is in Level 1 trauma
- OR Role: Circulate required, scrub preferred
- Unit Information: Core 3 & 4 units include General, Plastic, GYN, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Ortho, GU, Colorectal Robotics
- Average Daily Census: 70-80 patients

Contract Length
- Duration: 13 weeks
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable (verify per cost center)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable (verify per cost center)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA NRP only
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Verify per cost center
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) - Verify per cost center
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Verify per unit requirements
- NIH Stroke Certification - Verify per cost center
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA Acknowledgement required)
- State License Verification - Online verification within 30 days of start, including expiration and disciplinary actions
Required Documents & Verifications
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background Check (within 90 days of start) including:
- 7 years residence/work history
- SSN Trace, County Criminal, Statewide, National Sex Offender, FACIS Level III
- Education Verification (highest applicable education)
- International search if lived/worked outside US in last 7 years
- EPLS/GSA/SAM Check (within 30 days of start)
- HHS/OIG Check (within 30 days of start)
- Transcript/Diploma (official, clear copy)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
- Unit Competency Exam
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% minimum score)
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment verified within 2 years, must be from charge/manager/supervisor or above
- Employment Application: Current with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills Checklist: Completed within 12 months and updated annually
- Application must cover 7 years with all gaps accounted for
Health Requirements
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test: Within 12 months, must include make, model, size, and date
- Tested with approved respirators (3M N95 models, Honeywell N95, etc.)
- On-site fit testing available only as last resort with limitations
- Immunizations/Vaccinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations)
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations or history accepted)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (no instant tests)
- Flu Vaccination/Documentation (2025-26 season): Required for all candidates starting 9/30 or later; no declinations accepted; exemptions require approval
Additional Notes
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RN travelers to work at their facilities effective 11/30/24, except Periop/OR RN travelers and certain allied/ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS) who are exempt and allowed to work past this date.
- OR RNs need to be well-rounded and current in most areas except CV & Transplant, as floating may be required.
- Must complete facility-specific orientation and compliance forms prior to start.
- Mandatory completion of 22 RRT modules applies only to RRT candidates.
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with trauma Level I experience seeking a weekend travel contract in a high-acuity, short-term acute care hospital setting.
