Description

Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (Travel/Contract)

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 4x12 hour shifts, Days/Nights
On Call/Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; holidays as needed
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care; Teaching Hospital (Top 50 heart and vascular centers in the country)
Total Staffed Beds: 748
Charting System: Cerner
Scrubs: Not provided; RRT scrub color is Olive Green
Flu Vaccine: Required for all employees


Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of experience, including Trauma, ER, and Adult ICU
  • Experience with Puritan Bennett, Draeger, Servo I, EvitaXL, Viasys preferred
  • Current DC RRT State License
  • CRT or RRT certification required
  • BLS certification (AHA or ARC) required
  • ACLS preferred
  • Accepts first-time travelers (screening required)

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Preferred
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC)
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 80% or higher)
  • Color Blind Testing (online or in-person)
  • Competency Exams relevant to specialty/unit
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for RNs in critical care and cardiac units (not applicable for Respiratory Therapist but relevant for interdisciplinary teams)

Licenses & Background Checks

  • Valid DC RRT State License required prior to start
  • Criminal Background Check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and monthly thereafter
  • Education verification of highest degree required by position
  • Drug Screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually
  • I9 and E-Verify attestation required upon hire

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
  • N95 Fit Test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete on-site if needed)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years preferred
  • Negative TB test (IGRA or PPD) within 1 year, updated annually; chest x-ray if history of positive TB
  • Documentation of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept-Mar)
  • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask-wearing for patient encounters

Additional Requirements

  • Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, licenses, and contact information
  • Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually
  • Facility-specific modules (SITELS) must be completed before hire date
  • Clear photo for badge required (face centered, no shadows or glare, solid background)

This position offers an opportunity to work in a top-tier acute care teaching hospital with a focus on trauma, ER, and ICU respiratory care. The role requires strong clinical skills, relevant certifications, and compliance with comprehensive health and background screening protocols.
