Job Description

  • Position requires Certified Surgical Tech (CVOR) with scrub experience.
  • Shifts:
    • 2x8 shifts: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
    • 2x12 shifts: 10:30 AM – 11:00 PM
  • Day shift with call required; hours may vary between 6:30 AM and 11:00 PM based on need.
  • Flexibility is a must.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 5 years total CST experience.
  • At least 2 years in cardiac & vascular surgery.
  • Minimum 1 year CVOR experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Level I Trauma facility.
  • Experience with cardiovascular/thoracic instrument reprocessing.
  • Proficient in:
    • General OR procedures
    • Thoracic and vascular surgeries
    • CVOR procedures such as CABG, EVAR, TEVAR, valve replacement, etc.
    • Aseptic technique
    • Crash cart management, scrub & circulate roles
    • Equipment documentation
  • Charting system used: EPIC

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • National Surgical Tech Certification or applicable tech cert verification within 30 days of start (HSPA or CBSPD certification required for new travelers starting 3/28/25 and after)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications may be required based on unit (PALS, NRP, EFM)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting results.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Education accreditation verification required immediately after contract signing.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio codes; results must be current within 1 year of start.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
  • References: 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
    • MMR (2 doses or positive titer for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
  • Unit-specific competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams may be required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for RNs within 1 year of start and updated annually (if applicable).
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.
