Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Shift Details

  • 2 shifts of 12 hours: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • 2 shifts of 8 hours: 11:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • Weekend Requirement: 1-2 weekends per 4-week schedule

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification) – Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Level 1 Trauma Experience
  • Telemetry and Ventilator experience

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide check, sex offender registry, and MVR if driving is required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start using specific code (3701.881)
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education verification from accredited nursing programs (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Transcript or diploma verification required
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but recommended

Competency Requirements

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for all RN/LVN candidates prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exams
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required annually for all RNs except certain excluded units and fully remote positions
  • Remediation process in place for failed EKG exams with up to 3 attempts

Documentation and Policies

  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and signed annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually

Additional Notes

  • Fingerprinting must be completed at approved locations; out-of-state candidates may require mail-in fingerprinting with longer processing times
  • Background check and fingerprinting results with any hits require additional documentation and adjudication
  • Candidates using a compact license from states other than Ohio must complete a residency declaration form
  • Some certifications can be renewed at the facility

This position requires a highly qualified RN with trauma and telemetry experience, multiple certifications, and compliance with extensive background and health documentation protocols. The role involves night shifts with weekend coverage and a 13-week contract duration.
