Cardiology - Interventional Cath Lab (Contract Position)
Location
- Milwaukee, WI

Unit Information
- Cath Lab with 15 total labs shared between Cath Lab, EP, and Hybrid; travelers will work only in Cath Lab (about 11 labs)
- Fast-paced, high acuity environment
- 24-40 cases per day
- Adult patients only (no pediatrics)
Patient Types and Procedures
- Diagnostic and interventional Cath Lab cases including:
- Right and Left Heart Catheterizations (RHC, LHC)
- STEMI/NSTEMI
- CTO (Chronic Total Occlusion)
- Valvuloplasty
- Cardiomems
- Biopsies
- Atherectomies
- Staged PCI
- IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
- Impella
- ECMO (preferred)
- Peripheral diagnostic and interventional cases, including some fistulograms
- Hybrid cases (experience preferred but not required) such as AAA grafts, thoracic grafts, clips, TAVRs, Watchman devices
Patient Ratios
- 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
Required Experience and Certifications
- Minimum 3 years experience in Cath Lab
- Not suitable for first-time travelers
- RN Certifications: BLS, ACLS; NIHSS preferred
- RTR Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Wisconsin License; RCIS preferred
Skills Required
- RN and RTR: Experience with Cath Lab and peripheral cases listed above
- RN: Conscious sedation, managing drips
- RTR: Scrubbing and panning
- Hybrid experience preferred but not required
- Permanent staff will monitor cases
Unit Support
- Housekeeping for room turnover
- Storeroom staff manage supplies; rooms stocked by night shift Cath Lab employees
- Transporter available 06:30-20:00
- Receptionist/HUC available 06:00-20:00
- Charge nurse/Lead Tech present but generally not involved in cases
- Respiratory Therapy 24/7, manages vents if needed
- Hospitalist and Cardiology in-house 24/7
- Critical Response Team available for codes
Equipment and Charting
- Charting system: EPIC
- Equipment: Alaris pumps, Pyxis, GE C-arms, Volcano, St. Jude, Alphavac, Angiovac, EKOS, Anari (experience with some not required)
- Hemodynamic monitoring: GE Pruka (Maclab)
- PACS: Fuji and ProSolv
- IABP: Maquet
Scheduling and Orientation
- Contract length: 13 weeks
- Orientation: 1 week
- Shifts: 8 or 12 hour shifts available, can do a combination
- Department staffed 24/7
- Weekend rotation: Travelers may be scheduled weekends, usually on call
- Call schedule: On call from 12:00-20:30 on call days, then from end of shift until 06:00 next morning
- Call frequency: 7 days of call every 2-3 months (may not be required to take call all 7 days)
- Call response time: 30 minutes
- Time off approval: 7 days
- Holiday work possible depending on staffing
Policies and Other Notes
- Fatigue policy: Maximum 60 hours per week or 5 consecutive 12-hour shifts for all staff including travelers
- Scrub color provided
