Description

Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Columbus, Ohio

Unit Overview

  • Unit: 19 James Med Surg Oncology (12-hour day/night shifts)
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Patient care focus:
    • Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
    • Care for patients with soft tissue malignancies receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, and symptom management
    • Symptom management secondary to disease treatment or progression
    • Management of comorbidities
  • Heavy emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

Equipment Used

  • B450 monitors with GE telemetry system
  • Bladder Scanner
  • Alaris pumps
  • Stryker beds

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years RN experience
  • BCLS certification required
  • EPIC experience required
  • Patient ratio: 1:4
  • Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Previous travel experience preferred

Skills Required

  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Accessing ports
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • IV start
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required for certain units; check unit specifics
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required for L&D, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - specific expiration requirements
  • State License Verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification for RNs
  • NIH Stroke Certification - required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for Aya candidates)
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including SS trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, MVR if driving)
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing programs only)
  • Transcript/Diploma verification required
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required

Health Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption allowed with documentation
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; collect proof if available

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership
