Registered Nurse (OR RN) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital

Position Details
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
- Shift: Day Shift, 4x10-hour shifts (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
- On-Call Requirement:
- 1-2 call days per week starting at 5 PM
- 1 call weekend every 5 weeks (Saturday 7 AM to Monday 7 AM; 48 hours total)
- Floating: Required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Licensing
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
- License Required: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required for all RNs
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for MS and ER units
- NIH Stroke Certification - required for ER
- Other certifications as applicable (TNCC, NRP, EFM) depending on unit
- Radiation Badge: Required and must be provided by the agency for OR and related specialties
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift

- Scrubs: Hospital-issued OR scrubs
- Charting System: Epic
- Parking: Free parking available with a parking pass provided at badge pickup; garages and lots available
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- Must include SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- Background check must be run within 90 days of start
- Employment Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; references required (at least one from the unit of assignment)
- Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
- Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; NURSYS verification for RNs/LPNs/LVNs
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam confirming ability to meet job demands, completed within 90 days of start
- Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required via RespSafety questionnaire
- Vaccinations & Health Requirements:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccine highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Radiation Badge: Mandatory for OR and related specialties; candidates cannot start without it
- Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, no hats or sunglasses
Orientation & Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2-6 hours depending on location
- First Day Instructions (FDI): Sent after client clearance; must be followed strictly
- Facility Forms: Confidentiality, contractor forms, ID badge request, job description acknowledgment required before start
- Additional:
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system (OurDay)
- Complete MUSC-specific forms and assessments as required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have all certifications valid beyond 30 days from start date or renew prior to start
- Walk-through (temporary) licensure process available for SC RN license with faster turnaround if eligible
- Agencies responsible for providing radiation badges and tracking reports
- Facility may allow orientation without radiation badge but no floor access until badge received
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs who are flexible with call schedules and floating, have required certifications, and can comply with comprehensive health and background requirements.
