Job Description
- Position: TAVR Nurse Navigator
- Role involves both administrative and clinical duties in collaboration with physicians, clinical staff, patients, families, insurance companies, and vendors.
- Focus on planning, evaluation, and coordination of care for Structural Heart patients across the continuum of care.
- Responsibilities include:
- Pre-procedural and post-procedural care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
- Ensuring effective communication and superior patient care experience.
- Coordinating clinical interdisciplinary teams for pre-procedural evaluation prior to heart valve surgery, including Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).
- Participating in multidisciplinary meetings and professional presentations.
- Overseeing Pre-Admission Testing for TAVR and open-heart surgery patients.
- Abstracting and submitting clinical data on TAVR patients to the National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR).
- Reviewing previous TAVR cases to identify candidates for additional valve procedures.
- Facilitating a multidisciplinary working group for American College of Cardiology (ACC) Certification.
- Supporting development of a dedicated Valve Clinic.
- Serving as liaison between Rutgers University and the hospital for diagnostic testing issues.
- Providing education and mentorship to Cardiac Research Assistants.
Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
Certifications Required: ACLS and BLS
Required Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable. Required for adult critical care units and preferred for behavioral health.
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable. Required for all RNs and many tech roles.
- Other Certifications: May be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO) – confirm with program coordinator.
- Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and general competency exams required within 12 months of start. First attempt must be completed within 72 hours of signing.
- Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and EKG exams required with remediation process for failures.
Background & Health Requirements
- Background Check: Criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches. No open cases allowed.
- Drug Testing: 10-panel urine drug screen required within 30 days of start.
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start.
- Immunizations and titers required: MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap.
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
- Respiratory medical clearance and fit testing required prior to start.
- Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable.
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination.
Additional Requirements
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
- Employment History: 7 years of work history required with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey state requirement).
- Orientation & Training:
- Annual education sign-off and safety manual acknowledgment required.
- Iron Temple online training required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs.
- Facility-specific floating policy must be completed for every new assignment.
- Documentation: I9, Driver’s License/State ID, E-Verify required to clear.
