Location: Lawrence, Massachusetts
Employment Type: Contract

Job Description
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) provides speech-language pathology services to residents, aiming to maximize their function and independence in daily activities. The role involves collaboration with residents, caregivers, physicians, and the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform evaluations and therapeutic procedures under physician or healthcare provider orders, including treatment of communication disorders and dysphagia (e.g., modified barium swallow).
- Develop and implement therapeutic plans of care with functional long- and short-term goals, specifying treatment frequency and duration.
- Seek input from residents and caregivers regarding care plans.
- Consult with physicians and healthcare team members about therapeutic and discharge needs; participate in team meetings.
- Monitor and adjust treatment plans based on resident progress.
- Document all evaluations and treatments clearly and accessibly for the care team.
- Recommend and instruct on communication and swallowing assistive devices.
- Provide education to residents and caregivers, documenting responses.
- Understand Medicare, Medicaid, and other reimbursement regulations.
- Maintain and share clinical knowledge and skills; provide in-services to nursing and other departments.
- Assist in developing new speech therapy programs and services.
- Maintain required licenses, certifications, and complete annual compliance courses.
- Coordinate speech and language coverage.
- Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of clinical and office areas; follow infection control procedures.
- Perform other duties consistent with the role.
Qualifications
Education & Licenses
- Master’s degree required
- Speech & Language Pathologist license required
- Certificate of Clinical Competence required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
Experience
- Prior experience in long-term care or skilled nursing facility preferred
Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
- Responsible, supportive team player with strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Analytical with sound decision-making ability
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team
- Excellent time management and documentation skills
- Compassionate, resident-centered care approach
- Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English instructions
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Combination of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, twisting, and reaching required
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds; lifting above 50 pounds requires two-person assistance
- Frequent lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds
- Role involves a high level of responsibility for quality care
