Travel RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) - Longview, Texas
Position Overview
- Specialty: RN First Assistant (RNFA)
- Employment Type: Travel, Full Time
- Location: Longview, Texas
- Shift: Monday – Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Key Requirements
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of OR experience, including scrubbing and circulating roles
- CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) and EVH (Endoscopic Vein Harvesting) experience required
- Comfortable performing circulating, scrubbing, and first assist roles
Education & Certification:
- Successful completion of an RNFA program meeting AORN standards and accepted by the Competency and Credentialing Institute (CCI)
- Current RN license in Texas or compact state
- BLS (AHA) certification
- ACLS (AHA) certification
- CNOR Perioperative Nursing Certificate
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with surgeons and healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes in the perioperative setting
- Manage surgical patient care using the nursing process, including assessments, care planning, and documentation
- Maintain sterile field and aseptic technique; monitor surgical team adherence
- Provide surgical equipment and supplies appropriate to patient needs; ensure equipment functionality
- Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts; document and correct discrepancies
- Monitor and maintain a safe environment, including traffic patterns and environmental controls
- Administer and document medications per policy
- Delegate tasks according to laws and competency of team members
- Participate in patient and family teaching; assess learning needs and document outcomes
- Plan and implement safe patient positioning during surgery
- Operate sterilization equipment and ensure proper sterilization techniques
- Handle specimens accurately and according to policy
- Participate in Universal Protocol/Time-Out process
- Manage inventory and supply usage documentation
- Follow safety protocols with high-risk equipment (e.g., electrosurgical units, lasers)
- Provide first assistant duties including use of instruments, tissue handling, hemostasis, and suturing
- Foster a collaborative perioperative team environment
Additional Information
- Credentialing with the facility is required before starting and may take up to 90 days
- Must be adaptable to changes in nursing practice and maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills
