Description
Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule & Unit Information
- Rotating weekdays, weekends, and holidays
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Floating to different units within the hospital system as needed
- Preferred unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), but Medical-Surgical (MS) RN also accepted
- Estimated patient ratio: 1:4
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of PCU or Med-Surg nursing experience required
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required
- EPIC electronic health record experience required
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units; AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required; facility uses 3/3/3000 expiration for AWHONN certs
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; 2-year expiration
- State Nursing License Verification: Must be verified within 30 days of start
- NURSYS Verification: Required for RNs
- Tech Cert Verification (if applicable): National certification required within 30 days of start for certain tech roles
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for Aya candidates)
- Unit-specific Competency Exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
- Minimum passing score: 76%
- Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation process
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation confirmation from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
- Transcript or diploma verification required
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Facility-specific background acknowledgement and compliance forms must be reviewed and signed
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declined
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
References & Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio BCI/FBI codes and within 1 year of start
- Fingerprinting results must be submitted and approved prior to or at start
- Facility requires annual review and signing of ethics and compliance policies for new contracts
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually
