Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Work Schedule & Unit Information

  • Rotating weekdays, weekends, and holidays
  • 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Floating to different units within the hospital system as needed
  • Preferred unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), but Medical-Surgical (MS) RN also accepted
  • Estimated patient ratio: 1:4

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of PCU or Med-Surg nursing experience required
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for certain units; AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Required; facility uses 3/3/3000 expiration for AWHONN certs
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for most ICU, PCU, ED, and Brain & Spine units; 2-year expiration
  • State Nursing License Verification: Must be verified within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for RNs
  • Tech Cert Verification (if applicable): National certification required within 30 days of start for certain tech roles

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required for Aya candidates)
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam: Required for all RNs within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
    • Minimum passing score: 76%
    • Up to 3 attempts allowed with remediation process

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation confirmation from recognized nursing accrediting bodies (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, CASN)
  • Transcript or diploma verification required
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Facility-specific background acknowledgement and compliance forms must be reviewed and signed
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination accepted
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declined
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leader
  • Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates
  • Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio BCI/FBI codes and within 1 year of start
  • Fingerprinting results must be submitted and approved prior to or at start
  • Facility requires annual review and signing of ethics and compliance policies for new contracts
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually

This position offers a challenging and dynamic environment with rotating shifts and unit flexibility, ideal for experienced PCU or Med-Surg RNs with strong clinical skills and compliance readiness.
