Description

Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Clinton, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Position: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (1900-0730)
  • Ratio: 1 nurse to 4 patients
  • Every other weekend required
  • Float within skillset as needed

Requirements

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
    • Travel nursing experience required
    • Within the past 8 months, must have worked in an ED with at least 125 patients per day
    • Triage experience required
  • Certifications:

    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC certified
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam) with:
      • Minimum overall score of 80%
      • 100% score on lethal rhythms section
    • Other certifications may be required based on unit description (e.g., TNCC, NRP)
  • Skills:

    • Expert prioritization and organizational skills to manage a fast-paced ER environment
    • Ability to perform IV starts and phlebotomy

Compliance & Documentation

  • Criminal background check within 90 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years

  • Education verification for highest degree required by position

  • Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana), updated annually

  • Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease

  • Immunizations and health documentation required:

    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (updated annually)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) documentation or titers
    • Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
    • Varicella documentation or titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use
  • Valid state nursing license required prior to start

  • Valid driver’s license required if driving is an essential job function


Additional Information

  • Two positive supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least two years of experience within the last three years
  • Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, licenses, and contact information
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required within 3 years of start, with minimum 80% score
  • Color blindness testing required (online or in-person acceptable)
  • Annual competency exams required with minimum 80% score
  • Facility-specific orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required annually

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract ER RN position in Maryland requiring strong ER triage experience, multiple certifications (ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS), and successful completion of a specialized EKG competency exam. Candidates must be able to work a fast-paced environment with a 1:4 patient ratio, perform IV starts and phlebotomy, and float as needed. Compliance with extensive background checks, health screenings, and documentation is mandatory.
