Job Summary: Radiology / Cardiology Travel Contract in Toms River, New Jersey

Job Details

  • Schedule: 4x10 hour shifts
  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
  • Preferred Experience: Cardiac cath lab experience with neuro and interventional radiology (IR) preferred
  • NJ License: Must be obtained prior to start (quick process, within 2 weeks of applying)
  • Caseload: 10-15 cases per day
  • Call Requirements: Every 3rd to 4th weekend (STEMI and neuro), plus 5-6 week night shifts per 4-week schedule
  • Clinical Focus: CAD, PAD, STEMI, NSTEMI, cardiac arrhythmias, neuro (stroke)
  • Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS, ARRT
  • Candidate Type: First-timers and local candidates are acceptable

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable. Certificates expiring within a month of start require renewal confirmation.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA required; RQI and AHA instructor cards acceptable. Certificates expiring within a month of start require renewal confirmation.
  • ARRT Certification: Required for cardiac catheter lab roles.
  • Other Certifications: Depending on role, may require additional certifications such as NIH Stroke Certification, Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC for adults, APHON for pediatrics), and others as applicable.
  • Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology, Dysrhythmia/EKG, and general competency exams required within 72 hours of signing. Candidates have 3 attempts to pass; failure results in cancellation.
  • Color Blind Testing: Required within one year of start if job tasks require color discrimination.

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • State License: NJ RN license required prior to start.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required as applicable.
  • Background Check: Criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches. Candidates cannot start with open cases.
  • Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen required within 30 days of start.
  • Employment History: 7 years of work history required with verification of at least 1 year prior to start date (NJ state mandate).
  • References: Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • TB Testing: Negative TB test or chest X-ray required within 3 months of start. For past positive TB history, additional clearance and physician documentation required.
  • Physical Exam: Required within 12 months of start, must clear candidate to perform essential job functions and be free of communicable disease.
  • Immunizations:
    • Influenza vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within past 10 years.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity via positive IgG titers or vaccination proof.
    • Varicella immunity via positive IgG titer or vaccination proof.
    • Hepatitis B immunity via positive surface antibody titer or vaccine compliance.
  • Fit Testing: On-site N-95 respirator fit test required if job tasks require respirator use. Facial hair must be clean-shaven unless accommodation approved.
  • Latex Allergy Screening: Required if job tasks involve glove use; accommodations handled case-by-case.
  • Respiratory Medical Clearance: Required prior to start for respirator use.

Orientation & Training

  • Annual Education: Candidates must complete annual education sign-off and review facility-specific training materials.
  • Pass/Fail Testing: Pharmacology and EKG competency exams required; remediation available after first failure.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB): Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs. Online portion must be completed prior to start; in-person portion within 14 days of start.
  • Vendor Medical Clearance Form: Required for candidates with history of positive TB.
  • Flu Vaccination Attestation: Required for all candidates or approved exemption on file.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates switching between RWJBarnabas Health sites with less than 30-day gap may have some documentation accepted from previous assignment.
  • Facility requires timely submission of government-issued photo ID and driver’s license within 48 hours of signing.
  • Skills checklist and other competency documentation must be updated annually.
  • Candidates must bring all required health and clearance documents on the first day of orientation.
