Radiology / Cardiology Travel/Contract Position

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Facility Type: Teaching Hospital, Magnet, Level 1 Trauma
Facility Size: 865 staffed beds


Position Details

  • Role: X-Ray Tech / Pediatrics
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM, with holiday rotation
  • Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation; regular schedule starts week two
  • On-Call: Required; must respond within 1 hour when called. On-call hours:
    • Mon-Fri: 7 PM - 7 AM
    • Weekends: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM
    • Call likely on weekends but may cover other days as needed
  • Floating: May float to other pediatric imaging locations on the same campus for critical coverage

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Experience Required: Minimum 1 year
  • First-timers: Accepted
  • Certifications Required:
    • ARRT (R)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Licenses:
    • South Carolina state license must be active and in hand prior to start
  • Preferred Experience:
    • OR experience and C-arm experience (training available)
    • O-arm experience (training available)
    • Trauma and pediatric experience preferred but not required
  • Radiation Badge: Required and must be provided by the agency (facility does not provide)

Contract Length

  • Duration: 13 weeks

Work Environment & Miscellaneous

  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrub Color: Teal top / Black bottoms
  • Parking: Paid parking required nights and weekends only (one-time $20 pass)
  • Radius Rule: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, at a reduced rate
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
  • Hurricane Season: June through November; employees may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; SC RN license processing times vary (3-5 weeks typical)
  • Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
  • Employment Application: Must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC only)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Required for all pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required for adult critical care units, labor & delivery, cath lab, ER, ICU, interventional radiology (RNs only), PACU, PCU, pre-op, observation units; not required for pediatric units or CVOR techs
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Required (AHA/AAP only)
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC): Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM): Required for labor & delivery; preferred for mother/baby; not required for NICU
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable; pediatric OR prefers pediatric pharmacology exam but accepts regular exam if no pediatric experience
  • Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
  • Competency Exam: Required; pediatric OR prefers pediatric OR competency exam but accepts regular OR competency exam if no pediatric experience
  • Tech Certification Verification: Required for allied health professionals (e.g., medical assistants, phlebotomists, ultrasound techs)
  • IV Certification: Required for select LPNs providing IV therapy
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Required for ER and as applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual updates required, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually; specific mask models required
  • Vaccinations:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form required
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption; declinations not accepted
    • COVID-19 vaccines highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; low titers require boosters
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
  • TB Testing: Negative T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; if positive, proof of chest x-ray required
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • CBC and Biochem Panel: Required for Sterile Processing Techs only

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Orientation Modules: Must be completed prior to start; estimated 2 hours; completed on computer (not phone)
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire; must be submitted by Wednesday before start
  • Radiation Badge: Required for this role; process managed by agency; candidates cannot start floor work without badge
  • Emergency Response: Travelers may be assigned to emergency teams during hurricane season (June-November)

  • Floating to other pediatric imaging locations on campus may be required for critical staffing coverage
  • Facility uses Epic for charting
  • Parking pass required for nights and weekends only
  • Candidates must be prepared for on-call responsibilities with quick response times
