ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Grand Forks, North Dakota
Specialty: ICU
Employment Type: Long Term
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule: Rotating day/night shifts, 36 hours per week (3x12-hour shifts)
Weekends/Holidays: Per unit rotation
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Registered Nurse license from North Dakota Board of Nursing (NDBON) or Compact State Agreement prior to start date
- Essentials of Critical Care Orientation (ECCO) preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience in ICU or specific specialty
- 2+ years inpatient acute care experience in a larger hospital (Level 2 Trauma Center preferred)
- Recent travel experience with at least 3 completed assignments
- Epic electronic health record experience required
Job Description Summary
The ICU RN provides direct nursing care following established policies and protocols. The nurse maintains skills appropriate to patient age and facilitates coordination of care within the interdisciplinary team, including patient education for safe discharge.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily patient rounds ensuring quality care and addressing unmet needs
- Develop individualized care plans based on comprehensive patient assessments
- Assess patient condition, set goals, and implement nursing actions including discharge planning
- Promptly assess and manage patient pain and symptoms
- Identify early warning signs of patient deterioration and respond appropriately, including emergency interventions
- Communicate observations and coordinate with multidisciplinary team members
- Complete and submit incident reports as required
- Provide patient and family education and counseling to optimize understanding and discharge readiness
- Delegate nursing interventions safely within scope of practice
- Perform other duties as needed to support department and organizational goals
