Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Facility: Medical-Surgical Telemetry Unit (primarily MS patients)


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7 PM - 7 AM), every other week (EOW)
  • Holidays: As needed
  • Float: Required; travelers may float across all facilities in the health system
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years required; first-time travelers are welcome
  • Patient Population: Observation patients, respiratory conditions, general medical-surgical diagnoses, palliative/end-of-life/hospice, psychiatric observation, diabetes (including complicated cases), surgical patients and surgical observation
  • Electronic Medical Record: EPIC system used
  • Preferred: Previous Charge RN experience

Requirements & Certifications

  • Mandatory:

    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC)
    • Pass/fail EKG exam during onboarding (required for all RNs regardless of specialty)
    • Pass/fail EPIC test (2 attempts allowed; additional attempts may be granted at manager discretion)
    • Pass/fail medication/pharmacology competency exam (80%+ to pass)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (82%+ to pass; 2 attempts max with remediation)
    • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
    • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication)
    • NURSYS verification (RN license) within 60 days of start
    • State RN license primary source verification within 30 days of start
    • Annual skills checklist (1 week grace period to update)
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training (not required for Behavioral Health RNs)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for MS/Tele and Cardiac Progressive Care units)
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80%+ to pass)
    • Color Blind Testing (online; 90%+ to pass)
    • Competency Exam (80%+ to pass)
  • Preferred/May be required depending on unit:

    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background Check:
    • Must be completed within 60 days of start
    • Includes criminal, alias, social security trace, education verification, and more
    • No open hits allowed; all cases must be cleared before start
    • Foreign equivalency evaluation required if education was obtained outside the U.S.
  • Education Verification:
    • Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required
    • Primary source verification required; no pend allowed for RN EDVs at start (exceptions for international education with 30-day pend)
  • References:
    • 2 supervisory references required from clinical positions (one within 12 months, one within 24 months)
  • Employment History:
    • 7 years work history required on application/resume
    • Verification of all employment within last 5 years required through third party
  • Photo for Badge:
    • Strict photo requirements (no selfies, solid color background, business casual/uniform attire, forward-facing)
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam (if applicable)
    • Fit mask test (annual, approved N95 respirators required)
    • Immunizations/vaccinations required: Tdap, TB test (Qgold/TSPOT within 6 months), MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start (includes THC, opiates, cocaine, amphetamines, etc.)
    • TB Questionnaire updated annually
  • Facility Specific:
    • Floating policy acknowledgment (required for all agency staff)
    • Contractor equipment acknowledgment form
    • Health history form completion prior to clearance
    • Dress code review and acknowledgment
    • Job description review and acknowledgment

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and aware of zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences.
  • Compliance deadlines are strict; all documentation must be submitted timely.
  • Travelers must be prepared to float across different units/facilities as needed.
  • First-time travelers are accepted.
