Physical Therapist Outpatient - Orleans, Massachusetts

Job Summary

Assist patients in reaching maximum physical performance while adjusting to disabilities. Restore patient physical functioning by interpreting physical therapy evaluations and test results; determine treatment goals and plans; administer manual exercises; instruct, encourage, and assist patients in performing physical activities and using assistive/supportive devices.


Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited physical therapy program is required.
  • Licensure requirements:
    • For licensure prior to 2016, a bachelor's or master's degree is acceptable.
    • For licensure from 2016 onward, completion of a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program is required.
  • Patient care is required for this position.

Essential Functions

  • Complete billing sheets accurately by end of day.
  • Evaluate treatment effects at various stages and adjust treatments to maximize benefit.
  • Perform patient assessments and establish plans of care.
  • Provide in-service education programs for nursing personnel as needed.
  • Identify and document goals, anticipated progress, and plans for reevaluation.
  • Discuss evaluation, goals, and treatment with patients and families.
  • Participate in hospital-wide quality process improvement.
  • Supervise Physical Therapist Assistants (PTAs) according to policy and state regulations.

Credentials & Compliance Requirements

Licenses & Certifications

  • Physical Therapy License: Primary source verification required within 30 days of start date; MA conditional licenses not accepted.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Required prior to onboarding (AHA preferred).
  • Criminal Background Check: Within 45 days prior to start and updated if >6 month break.
  • Massachusetts CORI Check: Within 30 days prior to start and updated if >6 month break.
  • National Sex Offender Check: Within 30 days of start and updated annually.
  • Exclusion Checks: Within 30 days of start and annually (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid).
  • Education Verification: Verified through background check company.
  • Resume: Must include past 7 years of work experience with city & state.
  • References: Two recent references required, at least one supervisor or above in skillset.
  • Skills Checklist: Required for submission.
  • Assignment Confirmation Form: Required for all initial assignments and extensions.

Health & Immunization

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Documentation of vaccination or proof of immunity required.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Sept 15 - April 30); no exemptions allowed.
  • TB Test: Documentation of TB skin test or negative blood test within 3 months of start date; updated if >6 month break.
  • Health Statement: Physician statement within 365 days of start date; updated if >6 month break.
  • Respirator Medical Clearance (if applicable): Attestation required if fit test is needed for the role.
  • Hepatitis B Vaccine: Strongly preferred but optional.
  • Tdap Vaccine: Preferred within last 10 years but optional.
  • Positive PPD with Negative Chest X-Ray: Required if applicable.

This position involves direct patient care and requires compliance with all licensure, credentialing, and health requirements prior to onboarding.
