Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg) - Amarillo, Texas

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Med Surg)
  • Location: Amarillo, Texas
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Options: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (Days)
  • Patient Population: Medical/Surgical with telemetry monitored in a centralized unit
  • Unit Features:
    • Free floating charge nurse role
    • House discharge nurse floats across all departments
  • Travel Radius: 50 miles

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year of inpatient med/surg experience
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Charting System

  • Epic experience required

Certifications Required (as applicable)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color Blind Testing (online)
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Core Parts I, II, III (for subcontractors; annual completion required)

Licensure & Verification

  • Primary source online verification of state license required
  • NURSYS verification required for RN, LPN/LVN, AP
  • Education verification required (highest level of education)

Background & Compliance Checks

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire
  • Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements (not applicable here)
  • Work history verification for 7 years

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (specific mask types accepted)
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year; TB questionnaire for positives
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine, marijuana, methadone, opiates, oxycodone, etc.)
  • Onsite drug screen during orientation (only 1 attempt allowed; failure results in cancellation)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or agency-approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required (no declinations accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Complete application/resume required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
  • Clear headshot photo for badge
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement (HIPAA compliance)
  • References: Internal only; not required for clearance
