Description

Registered Nurse (Critical Care) - Travel/Contract

Location: Tyler, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Critical Care RN is responsible for delivering patient care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Key responsibilities include:

  • Clear communication with staff and patients regarding treatment plans
  • Sensitivity to patients' physical, spiritual, and emotional needs
  • Supporting organizational programs to ensure quality care
  • Efficient management of department and patient activities
  • Providing quality customer service to patients, families, and healthcare team members

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year recent Critical Care experience in a similar healthcare setting
  • Preferred: 2 years experience in Level I Trauma
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Education & Licensure

  • Minimum: 2-Year Degree (Preferred: 4-Year Degree)
  • Current RN licensure for Texas required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required

Certifications (As Applicable)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% score)
  • Color Blind Testing (online acceptable)
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% score or Angoff score if higher)
  • Annual Core Testing (for subcontractors)

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks upon hire
  • Education verification (highest level) required
  • Work history verification for 7 years
  • Fingerprinting (time-sensitive for certain states)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire for positive TB results, renewed annually
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history required
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required

Residency Restriction

Candidates residing in the following counties are not eligible: Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris.


This position requires a highly skilled Critical Care RN with appropriate certifications and compliance with health and background verifications to ensure quality patient care in a Level I Trauma setting.
