Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Facility Type: Post Cardiac Surgery, Post Vascular Surgery unit
  • Staffing Ratios: 1:3-5 based on acuity
  • Strong cardiac and post-op heart experience required
  • Floating: May be required to float to Med-Surg, PCU, ICU units with provided resources
  • Charge Nurse Coverage: May be required with training and resources
  • Weekend Work: Expected every other week; consecutive weekends possible based on operational needs
  • Call-In Policy: Call-in shifts must be made up during pay period or added to end of contract depending on FTE status
  • First Time Travelers Accepted
  • Locals NOT accepted
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Required for all travelers (medical/religious exemptions accepted with documentation)
  • Indiana RN Restriction: Effective 11/30/24, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed except for Periop/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • PALS (AHA only, RQI acceptable)
  • NRP (AHA only)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • CHEMO (as applicable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) as required per unit
  • State Nursing License verification (within 30 days of start)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)

Required Skills and Experience

  • Level 1 or Level II Trauma Experience
  • Telemetry
  • IV Start
  • Cardiac Drips - Titrate
  • Strong cardiac/post-op heart experience is essential

Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 2 years typical for specialty with trauma and cardiac experience preferred.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months (3M N95 or Honeywell N95 models approved)
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
  • Immunizations/Vaccinations:
    • COVID-19 vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31), no declinations accepted
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap preferred but not required
    • Tuberculosis test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
  • TB Questionnaire updated annually
  • Color Blind Exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score

Documentation and Background Checks

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background Check within 90 days including:
    • 7 years residence/work history
    • SSN Trace
    • County Criminal
    • Statewide
    • National Sex Offender
    • FACIS Level III
    • Education Verification
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma (official, clear copy)
  • Employment Application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
  • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years (must be from charge, manager, supervisor, or above)
  • Skills Checklist within 12 months and annually thereafter
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
  • Unit Competency Exam required

Additional Notes

  • Refusal to float may result in contract termination
  • Mandatory completion of IU Health-specific orientation modules and facility forms prior to start
  • On-site PAPR available at Methodist and University campuses with automatic approval
  • On-site Fit Testing only as last resort and not available at certain campuses

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with strong cardiac and trauma experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced post-surgical environment and is willing to float as needed. Compliance with strict immunization and background check requirements is mandatory.
