Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics - EEG Tech (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Details

  • Position: Inpatient EEG Technician
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), night shifts
  • Weekend Requirement: Yes
  • On Call: No
  • Floating: Yes, between multiple hospital locations as needed
  • Radius Rule: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years
  • Specialty Experience:
    • Adult ICU and EMU (Epilepsy Monitoring Unit)
    • Pediatric ICU and EMU experience required
  • Certifications Required:
    • Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.)
  • Certifications Preferred:
    • CLTM (Certified Long Term Monitoring Technologist)
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Facility & Department Overview

  • Level 4 Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center
  • Clinical Neurophysiology Lab includes:
    • Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM) team
    • Outpatient EEG team
    • Inpatient EEG team
    • EMG team
    • Neurovascular team
  • Services both adult and pediatric patients with:
    • Routine EEGs
    • Long-term Monitoring (LTM)/Continuous EEG
    • EMU
    • Epilepsy Surgery including SEEG, Cortical Mapping, WADA, and SPECTs
  • EEG Technologists rotate between live monitoring and technical tasks such as hook ups, wire maintenance, activations, and skin checks
  • Operations run 24/7 with multiple EEG Technologists on night shifts
  • Monitoring rooms at both adult and children’s hospitals

Important Notes

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Peak months are August and September. Travelers should consider this before accepting or extending assignments.
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Work Eligibility: Completed and accurate I-9 form required
  • Identification: Copy of Driver’s License/State ID and Social Security Card required
  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN Trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if verification pending
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Required for all clinical staff (AHA or ARC only)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required for adult critical care units; not required for pediatric units
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Required for pediatric units except Pediatric OR
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Must be through AHA/AAP
  • Other Certifications:
    • Tech Certification Verification (National) required for allied health professionals
    • NIH Stroke Certification required for ER and as applicable
    • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required as applicable
    • Color Blind Testing required prior to start
    • Competency Exams required, with pediatric OR preferences noted

Licensure

  • State License: South Carolina license required (RRT license for Respiratory Therapists)
  • Primary Source Verification: Must show active, unencumbered license with no pending actions
  • NURSYS Verification: Required for RNs and LPNs/LVNs as applicable
  • IV Certification: Required for select LPNs if applicable

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with follow-up chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titers or vaccination series required; boosters may be needed for low titers
    • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
    • Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
    • COVID Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
  • Additional Health Documents:
    • Sterile Processing Techs require CMP and CBC labs and specific physical assessment forms (not applicable for this role)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Orientation: Completion of online modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style photo with solid light background required before start
  • Radiation Badge: Not required for EEG Techs
  • Emergency Preparedness: Awareness of possible emergency response duties during hurricane season
