Description

Job Opportunity: RN - Central Resource Pool

Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Overview

  • 30-bed medical-surgical unit plus 8-bed progressive care unit (IMC trained)
  • Patient diagnoses include pneumonia, COPD, CHF, COVID-19, pulmonary embolism, and complex respiratory cases
  • Experience with mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy, intravenous medications, moderate sedation monitoring, chest tubes, tracheostomies, postoperative care, non-invasive ventilation, and cardiac monitoring
  • Patient length of stay: ~4 days (medical-surgical), ~9 days (acute care)
  • Diverse patient population with supportive family culture

Equipment & Documentation

  • Epic electronic health record system
  • Alaris pumps for IV fluids
  • Acudose medication dispensing system

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated; assume at least general RN experience with critical care skills
  • Skills: Bipap, Cpap, Heated High Flow, Oxygen titration, Moderate Sedation, Telemetry, Medical-Surgical patient care
  • Licensure: RN license in South Dakota or compact state required
  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required; specialty certification preferred

Schedule & Shifts

  • Shift options: Straight nights, rotating shifts, or blocked scheduling (1 week orientation, 7 weeks days, 6 weeks nights)
  • Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Floating: Yes, travelers float to med-surg units first and may be reassigned to other departments

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

  • Progressive Care (IMC): 1:3
  • Medical-Surgical: 1:4-5 on day shifts, 1:5-6 on night shifts

Orientation & Training

  • Day 1: Competency validation on telemetry and mechanical ventilation with nurse educators
  • Day 2: Unit shift with preceptor including patient care, unit tour, and testing
  • Day 3: 12-hour shift on unit

  • Nurses collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including case managers, social workers, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physical therapists, and specialty providers
