Description

Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.
  • Staffing ratios goal: 1:4, can be 1:5.
  • Weekends: variable based on unit needs.
  • No set/blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests submitted for final schedule balancing.
  • Orientation:
    • Week 1: Monday-Friday day shift orientation.
    • Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
  • Floating required to other MedSurg Oncology units.

Patient Population

  • Adults and Geriatrics.

Common Patient Diagnoses

  • Breast Cancer
  • Lung Cancer
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Pancreatic Cancer
  • Colon Cancer
  • Esophageal Cancer
  • Antineoplastic chemotherapy encounters

Unit Details

  • Cares for all solid tumor cancers across the cancer journey: new diagnosis, treatment, and end-of-life care.
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
  • Patients may have true medical-surgical issues.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
  • Prior travel experience is preferred, but not required.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

Certifications Preferred

  • ONS Chemo (Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy Certification)

Skills Required

  • Telemetry interpretation
  • Telemetry monitoring

Charting System

  • EPIC

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
  • Education accreditation verification required for nursing degree.
  • State license verification within 30 days of start.
  • Annual background check required by agency.
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exam required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed).

References & Documentation

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must comply with facility dress code and hand hygiene policies.
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.
  • ACLS may be required depending on unit assignment (check unit-specific requirements).

This position offers a dynamic oncology nursing experience with a focus on solid tumor care and requires strong clinical skills, flexibility, and adherence to rigorous compliance and credentialing standards.
