Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Unit
Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Experience & Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Telemetry/Cardiac)
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; 1st time travelers accepted
- Skills Required:
- Telemetry monitoring
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Comfortable managing cardiac drips including Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Milrinone, Amiodarone, Lasix, and Heparin
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- Additional Testing: Must pass EKG competency testing prior to start
Job Details
- Shift: Nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
- Float Requirement: Yes, float to other telemetry units
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend days in a 6-week period
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Patient Diagnoses: Chest pain, arrhythmias, pacemaker/defibrillator patients, heart failure cases
- Unit Systems: Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
- Scrubs: Not provided
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks within 6 months (SSN trace, county, nationwide, sex offender searches)
- Drug testing (9-panel, within 6 months)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with exceptions for past positives)
- Immunizations and titers: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Physical exam (Aya standard, not required by client for crisis profile)
- Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
- Medication safety training completion required
- Photo for badge (passport style, white background, business attire)
- Various facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, hospital policies, and orientation acknowledgements
Competency Exams & Training
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (must score 82% or higher; 3 attempts allowed)
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam
- Color blind testing within 1 year
- Core training modules (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission) for applicable staff
- Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8 hours, required for travel staff)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training if applicable (ER and Behavioral Health nurses)
Additional Notes
- No Return to Origin (RTO) allowed after booking; call-offs or additional RTO may lead to cancellation
- Float to other telemetry units required
- EPIC test-out option available for experienced candidates (optional)
- Radiation badge required only for specific tech roles, not for this RN role
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with telemetry and cardiac experience who is comfortable managing complex cardiac patients and medications, willing to work night shifts with weekend requirements, and able to complete required orientation and competency testing. Prior travel experience is not mandatory.
