Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Transplant OR RN)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Transplant OR Registered Nurse
  • Required Years of Experience: 2 years (strong transplant experience required)
  • First-time travelers accepted if they meet experience requirement
  • Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Job Requirements

  • Transplant Experience: Liver transplant experience is a hard stop (mandatory)
  • Must have experience performing recipient procedures involved in liver transplant
  • Call Requirement: Yes, 40-60 hours per 6-week period
  • Float Requirement: Yes, multi-specialty including all surgeries
  • Must work 2/3 major holidays
  • Shift Options:
    • 8 and 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
    • 3 shifts of 12 hours (36 hours/week)
    • 4 shifts of 12 hours (48 hours/week)

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have Indiana RN license, temporary license, or compact license at start
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
    • Regulatory Charting for Transplants
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, RQI acceptable
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
    • Other certifications may be required depending on cost center/unit (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification)

Unit Information

  • Focus on abdominal transplants: Kidney, Pancreas, Liver, Intestinal/Multi-visceral
  • Pediatric transplants are not included for travelers (done at a separate facility)

Hiring & Compliance Notes

  • Indiana RN’s will not be allowed to work at IU Health facilities after 11/30/2024, except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS)
  • Locals with permanent residence in Indiana are accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background Checks:
    • Within 90 days of start, including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, sex offender registry, FACIS Level III
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education Verification: Highest applicable education verified by 3rd party
  • Transcript/Diploma: Official copies required (may be pending at start)
  • Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test: Within 12 months of start, using approved respirators (3M N95 models or Honeywell N95)
  • Immunizations & Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required, no declinations accepted
    • Flu Vaccination: Required for 2025-26 season, no declinations accepted (medical/religious exemptions require approval)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Competency Exams: Medication/Pharmacology test and unit competency exam required
  • Color Blind Testing: Ishihara exam or equivalent with 100% minimum score
  • References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment with appropriate supervisory titles
  • Employment Application: Must be current and explain any gaps over 30 days within last 7 years
  • Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months and annually
  • Facility-specific forms and orientation packets must be completed prior to start
