Description

Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a high acuity and high pace environment (3-5 years required, with preference for 5 years of high-risk experience).
  • Must have high-risk labor and delivery (L&D) experience.
  • No first-time travelers accepted; prior travel experience is required.
  • Must have current supervisory references and proof of required certifications.
  • Must pass clinical review and provide proof of current NURSYS verification.

Job Details

  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed; pre-approved time off is case-by-case.
  • Float required between postpartum and antepartum units; may float to sister facilities that handle Mother/Baby care.
  • Patient diagnoses include midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
  • Use of EPIC electronic health record system and electronic fetal monitoring (EFM) required.
  • Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.

Unit & Procedures

  • High Risk/High Volume Labor & Delivery unit with 4 operating rooms.
  • Average daily census: 15 patients; 500-600 deliveries per month.
  • Unit has 31 rooms and 31 beds.
  • Schedule posted every 6 weeks to meet unit needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Function as Baby Nurse during delivery and provide newborn care until transfer to postpartum (hard stop requirement).
  • Circulate in the OR (hard stop requirement).
  • Provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections (thighs), and newborn assessments (hard stop requirement).
  • Administer medications such as Heparin, Insulin, Magnesium Sulfate.

Certifications Required

  • Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Preferred:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • AWHONN Advanced and Intermediate certifications
  • EFM certification (AWHONN or NCC) or completion of fetal heart rate monitoring assessment exam required for L&D RNs.

Licensure & Compliance

  • Active compact nursing license accepted.
  • Must provide current NURSYS verification.
  • Background checks and verifications per Washington state and Providence Health and Services policies.
  • Must complete required WorkRamp training modules as assigned by Providence.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start.
  • Fit mask testing required (updated annually).
  • Immunizations and screenings required:
    • TDAP (within 10 years) or declination
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual updates)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
  • Respirator safety clearance required annually for travel candidates.

References & Documentation

  • Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
  • Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required.
  • Skills checklists and competency exams as applicable to specialty and unit.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have proof of all required certifications and references at submission.
  • Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care as specified; candidates lacking these skills will not be considered.
  • Floating to related units within the Providence system may be required.
  • Pre-approved time off is limited and handled on a case-by-case basis.

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong high-risk labor and delivery backgrounds who have prior travel contract experience and are comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
